I personally do not think that artists are being "discovered" because they have a nifty blog. I do believe that for the artist time spent on blogging is time wasted. Contrary to what a few so-called artist consultants are promoting, blogging is not the path to launching an art career and getting discovered.
But, in the event I'm (gasp!) wrong, I will continue with this blog......
Here's a thought:
We live in a society where artists sit endlessly in front of a glowing monitor screen, "socializing" with other artists via emails and blog comments, posting their art online, entering worthless online art competitions, "selling" their art on Ebay or other online auctions for fractions of what the art is worth. We spend what little money we have on foolish promotions such as AdWords campaigns, Ebay Keywords, press releases and online gallery memberships.
Likewise, we live in an era of "safe art", zen abstracts, art-in-a-day exercises, meditation, journaling...an art era characterized by the lack of innovation. And I strongly suggest that the lack of innovation and the amount of time spent in front of a computer monitor, blogging, meditating, and journaling go hand in hand.
I for one am rebelling against that and going back to the roots of creating art.....spending time in the studio painting, socializing with other artists face-to-face, staying off the computer. This will be very difficult for me because I am the definitive anti-social, but the merits of which can not be argued.
I encourage all artists dedicated to creating fabulous art to do likewise.
